6mm Wargaming

Modern Argentinean Gallery

Introduction

This army is probably my most obscure Modern army. Scotia released a range of Argentinean vehicles based on the TAM chassis and those form the basis of this army. The rest of the vehicles used by the Argentinean army are readily available from the usual 6mm manufacturers apart from some of the self propelled artillery.

I don't have a lot of knowledge with regards to the Argentinean and their most famous recent conflict in the Falkland (Los Malvinas) Islands was with mostly Marines and Conscript Infantry. This force is based on the Cavalry Brigades which are the main Armoured formations in the army. Most of the armour is pretty light but their likely South American opponents would also have lightly armoured forces.

Painting information

Before painting I added some stowage to the vehicles using a mix of H&R and GHQ pieces with the odd blob of greenstuff. H&R also make a range of M113 and M60 roadwheels and they were added onto the M113s, AMX-13/75 and Kurassier vehicles. Then these vehicles were given a base colour of US Deck Tan using a Tamiya spray can. The sandy base colour was highlighted in about 3 layers using Vallejo Cork Brown and Desert Yellow (mixed together), and progressively lightened with Iraqi Dark sand and lightly drybrushed with a Vallejo Ivory colour. The green was a GW colour of Lorien Forest followed by a lighter coat of GW Straken Green. Details such as stowage was painted Vallejo Brown violet and highlighted with khaki. The tracks were painted dark brown and the roadwheels given a brown wash. Other details such as tools were picked out with a dark grey and tailights were painted red (the lights are probably over scaled but the effect is good). The tires on the wheeled vehicles were painted a blue-black colour (Tamiya Dark Sea blue) and windscreens light blue highlighted with white. Finally the vehicles were given a black pin wash.

Scotia TAM Tank

Part of Scotia's Argentinean range and a very good model. Mine were well cast and the details clearly defined (perhaps they don't sell many so the moulds are good!). The turret is a bit plain on top but I didn't check if there were any details omitted. The barrels were replaced with brass rod and a blob of greenstuff for the fume extractor. I replace the barrels on most of my tanks as they don't handle the wear and tear otherwise.

H&R SK105 Kurassier Tank

From H&R's new generation of models made by a new sculptor. A wonderful model of this widely exported little tank. Very impressed by this model and I can't say enough good things about this.

H&R AMX13/75 Light Tank

Another nice model from H&R and I generally find that their modern French range is well sculpted. This is the 75mm version and the barrels is nicely cast, so I didn't try to replace it with brass rod even though I expect then to bend and the paint to flake.

Scotia VCTP APC

Another great model in this range from Scotia. The most glaring omission is the lack of the remote controlled MG on the rear top (similar to the West German Marder IFV). I contemplated scratchbuilding some but then I decided it was too much work.

Skytrex AMX-VCI APC

This is one of the nicest Skytrex models I have seen and it paints up very well. Until recently no one else made this model and now GHQ does, but I think this is a very good model.

H&R M113 APC

A simple model of the M113 (compared to GHQ and some others) but it is well sculpted and looks right. With some models the top hatch was drilled out and a gunner and MG added using a CNC model I think. For the rest I added a CNC HMG as it looks a bit plain without one.

Scotia VCTM Mortar carrier

Another great model based on the TAM chassis. The details are good and it is good to see unusual models like this being produced.

Scotia M35 Truck

Quite a nice model although my ones had a miscast on the right side of the cab which was very difficult to cleanup.

H&R Unimog Truck

A lovely model from H&R which represent an early version of the Unimog truck with the rounder front cab. The fine details on this model are very good.

A selection of M151 Jeeps

Here's a selection of jeeps - left to right, H&R Jeep+HMG, H&R Jeep+106mm RCL, CNC Jeep, H&R Jeep+TOW. These are all good except for the RCL vehicle which is rather poor and it has a squashed appearance. The HMG and TOW Jeeps come with separate weapons which is handy.

H&R FK-20 20mm AA Gun

A great little model from H&R which comes with a crew member cast on to the gun. Additional crew are GHQ WW2 US artillery crew.

Scotia M101 Howizter

These are meant to be M102 howitzers, and I realised I had the wrong model after I painted then. A very nice model from Scotia and I am a fan of the moulded bases for their guns.
